After the summer holidays, one of the busiest periods of the year starts: the months leading to the huge peak of sales for Christmas, a period which usually coincides with the launch of a series of new bottlings. Actually, for us the effort started much earlier, with samples tasting, cask selection and planning which have been going on for all the previous months of the year (and also part of the year before). But yes, this is actually the time when you are finally able to see the fruits of our unstoppable work!
As it often happens, we choose this period to launch some innovative bottlings, to introduce some interesting new concepts and give a new touch of freshness to our beloved classic line: the Classic Barrel Selection.
These are the new intriguing whiskies that we are releasing:
As you can see, there are some important news. Alongside bonafide classics like our Caol Ila (with our unique vatting of refill bourbon and virgin oak casks, called Quercus Alba), the confirmation of the deliciously juicy and fruity Glenlossie, and a very winey and biscuity Speybridge (our mysterious undisclosed distillery from Speyside), there are two bottlings that are an absolute new entry in our catalogue, from Royal Brackla.
First, because we had never had a bottling from this delicious single malt distillery in the Highlands. And second, because it’s our first use of “rejuvenated casks”, also called STR: Shaved, Toasted and Recharred.
These casks have been previously used for whisky maturation, but this process exposes new layers of wood on the inside, which makes them more active in imparting flavour and maturity to the whisky. Not exactly like first fill, but almost.
The result are two robust bodied bottlings with a rich, fragrant and flowery style. Very malty, slightly honeyed, but without excessive oak influence. One of them is at our usual strength of 46%, the other at traditional 100 UK proof (57.1%) and it’s also definitely more intense in flavour, with a hint of toasted smokiness too. We are sure you will enjoy them both!
Be sure to order the new Wilson & Morgan releases in time, because as usual stock is very limited!
