A very old Speyside malt, from a distillery traditionally known for the fruity character of its spirit. We chose to enhance it with a finish of almost six years in second fill Oloroso, not to overwhelm the complexity. The result is only moderately winey at the nose: the most evident notes are of beeswax, and then an array of very ripe fruits. Apples, bananas, oranges, kakis, but also exotic ones such as mango and pineapple. The waxy impression and the kaleidoscope of ripe fruits are confirmed at the first sip: while quite robust in body, it’s rather delicate in flavour, full of nuances rather than bold statements. Towards the end, a faint spicy note starts to grow: pepper, a bit of mustard, together with a slightly toasted hint.
