Malts matured in sherry casks for decades are often very vinous in taste, dry and dominated by oak. The exceptions, like this rare Macduff, are even more fascinating… The olfactory impression is the most stunning: an explosion of banana, passion fruit and overripe tropical fruits cocktail, luscious and redolent with sweet organic fragrance. Honey, a touch of mustard and even a mineral hint, for a nose you can really explore forever. In the mouth it’s syrupy and just as honeyed and gloriously fruity, but a touch of tannins and liquorice provide the perfect balance and prevent it from being cloying, before giving way to a blast of grapefruit and black pepper in the finale. A beauty, pure pleasure for those with a very sweet tooth.
