Our oldest Glenburgie is also the most intense and complex, as it often happens with whisky ‘forgotten’ in second fill sherry casks for so many years. At the nose it shows very evident notes of oak and wood polish, but never overbearing: the particular quality of this malt after thirty years is that it still smells mindblowingly fresh and sweet, rich of bananas, tropical fruits, pineapple… and even a quizzical aroma of fruit bubblegum! The same ripe tropical fruits (and also oranges and apricots) explode on the palate, immediately balanced by a tangy piquant spiciness. It’s almost like ‘Mostarda di Cremona’, the Italian recipe of mustard flavoured candied fruits. A gentle touch of smoke completes the flamboyant experience. Timeless, exciting, very ‘old Highlands style’.
