A winning oldie which manages to marry the influence of oak with a stimulating and youthful vibrancy! We appreciate the occasional old, dark malt dominated by the wood, but we prefer to bottle whiskies with a certain balance, before they have started to become too oaky. This Glen Grant deserves some respect and will certainly appeal to lovers of old, dry, tannic and astringent sherry oak bombs… but it still is at the peak of maturation, with a good amount of fresh fruitiness. The nose is delicate, rich on tropical fruits, and the palate is particularly crisp and with a pleasant taste of red apples, together with a slightly waxy note. The immensely long finish is peppery, mineral, and slightly smoky.
