Silver Medal Malt Maniacs 2012
A very different style of Bunnahabhain compared to the highly successful bottlings of 1968 vintage from last year! While those two were mellow, creamy and delicate, this one is just as exciting but on a spicier and more vibrant profile. At the nose it exhibits just a hint of oakiness, leaving the stage to its flamboyant fruitiness: mango, pineapple, passion fruit, grapefruit… an explosive interplay of sweet and sour, with a touch of organic character. This fruit explosion returns in the mouth, with traces of anise and pepper too. Complex, slightly mineral, pleasantly astringent and tannic, light and rich at the same time… a style which reminds bottlings from decades ago, rarer and rarer to find nowadays.
