From our long partnership with our Hungarian importer, we have received some superlative casks which had been previously used to mature the ultra-sweet Patricius wine from Tokaj. What better pairing than with a fruity and flowery whisky from Speyside? After a finish of two years in these precious casks, we are happy with the result. As expected, it’s very juicy: at the nose it offers plenty of sultana raisins, dates, apricots and peaches, while retaining a citrusy character that prevents from fruity excess. It’s quite waxy, and ripe nonetheless, and these obvious traits are found at the palate too. While not transfigured from its Speyside character, it has a markedly honeyed touch, again with a balance influence of fruit salad and candied citrus. The high acidity of the wine prevents the whole from becoming cloying: it actually remains very appetizing and peppery.
