Our usual young Caol Ila returns with a particularly medicinal, intense and sharp expression. In these releases we try to keep oak influence low using second and third fill casks, for a purer and fresher style, true to the spirit of the distillate: the result is very clean, direct, maritime. What is particularly striking about this years’ release apart from the very intense peat, is the incredible saltiness, but on top of smoke, salt and iodine there is a wonderful leafy character, making it both coastal and extremely vegetal. We can easily say that of the last three releases this is the one with the biggest character, even at the cost of being slightly rugged… a trait that all Islay lovers will appreciate.
