Superior Gold at Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition
A deliciously fruity, ripe and decadent Speyside malt, in a very rich style that reminds of whiskies from decades ago. The 28 months finish in a fresh Oloroso hogshead definitely enhanced its sweet and fragrant style, without being too dominant or winey. At the nose it’s rich with overripe peaches, tropical fruits, bananas, raisins, dates, and even a whiff of coconut. Sweet, honeyed, and with a touch of beeswax. The first sip is chewy, again very fruity (with plenty of juicy sweet oranges), but also mineral and with a touch of rosewater. The balance between sweetness and a drier side is very carefully maintained. Only in the finale, a more tannic, astringent side starts to grow, leaving the palate eager for another sip.
