According to our taste, Glenrothes needs to be bottled at quite an old age from a second fill cask to reach its very best and smoothen its edgy character a bit. This release makes no exception, and on top of the original maturation in refill Oloroso, we added four years in second fill Pedro Ximenez for an extra touch of fruitiness to this very dry whisky. The final result strikes a fine balance between the rich and raisiny body, with its juicy and nutty notes, and the original very nervous and sharp character of the spirit. It’s like a blade concealed in a velvet sheath, at the same time laid back and lively, with a final impression that hints at something like oven-roasted apples.
