The traditionally sweet and rich character of this full-bodied Speyside malt is enhanced by a finish for one year in fresh Pedro Ximenez casks. Very intense at the nose, with a thick, organic and farmy fragrance of ripe exotic fruits (bananas, mango, passion fruit), it also showcases an oily touch of beeswax and the richness of sultana raisins from the wine. At the palate it’s robust, very concentrated and full of ripe fruits (with a pleasant hint of red oranges too), but the sweetness is kept in check by a nervous quality, by a markedly spicy undercurrent. The honeyed and raisiny notes are balanced by the right amount of astringency, the creamy smoothness is backed by lively pepper. The mouth-coating and waxy notes are reminiscent of the glorious style of the best whiskies from the Highlands. The finale is very peppery, playful and lingering.
