Why are sherry matured Caol Ilas such a rarity, since the results can be so stunning? The crisp and markedly peated character of the distillate receives strength and body by the sherry cask, and the result is juicy, complex, brooding and heavy. This Caol Ila is powerful, rich in organic, earthy and leathery notes: the sherry does not overwhelm the malt, it is a perfect interaction. Slightly astringent at first and then becoming rounded and tarry, it is very consistent from start to finish. At the nose, the typical notes of camphor, liquorice, mint and bitter oranges marmalade from the interaction of peat and sherry are very evident and exciting. Destined to become a classic, reminiscent of a style beloved by connoisseurs of legendary bottlings from decades ago!
