From a very active first fill bourbon hogshead, an exquisite expression of a classic Islay Malt. This kind of casks preserves the right balance between the maritime style of the distillery and the oak, but this bottling goes even a little further: it’s rare to find a whisky that’s so full flavoured, intense and bold… but at the same time so round and easily drinkable even at cask strength. Intensely smoky, with an ashy and tarry nose, it immediately reminds of bonfires on the beach. Quite full bodied, it matches the richness of the peat with a creamy malty background: not markedly sweet or dominated by the vanilla of the oak, but very smooth. Muscular, but approachable. Notes of candied citrus, a slightly waxy touch and meadowy fragrance complete the picture.
