Bunnahabhain is one of our favourite distilleries, since it produces a consistently excellent spirit, with interesting variations and good aging potential. This bottling is (as typical) almost completely unpeated, and while it is enriched by maturation in an Oloroso sherry cask, it is not of the extremely sweet and winey kind. The distillate is round and robust as usual, rich of farmy notes of cereals and beeswax, and of course the sherry makes it nuttier. But the singularity of this release is that the overall effect is not particularly fruity, but rather biased on a peppery note, striking an interesting balance between the malty and very mineral character of the distillate, and the dry notes of the cask
